Biak, Waironnews.com – Sofian Korwa spoke to the media after attending a Public Hearing (Rapat Dengar Pendapat/RDP) with three commissions of the Regional House of Representatives of Biak Numfor Regency (DPRK Biak Numfor) on Monday (March 16, 2026).

On that occasion, Sofian emphasized that the housing complex currently under public scrutiny in Anjareuw Village is a privately owned asset and has no connection with PT. Biak Mina Jaya (BMJ).

“I firmly state that there is no intervention, ownership, or shareholding from PT. Biak Mina Jaya (BMJ) in this asset. The land and buildings were purchased through an auction mechanism with clear documentation and written statements,” Sofian said.

He explained that the complex is not a former housing facility of PT. Biak Mina Jaya (BMJ), but rather a private housing business. Every resident who wishes to occupy a housing unit is required to purchase it or pay through installments valued at around Rp80 million, which he said is supported by a clear legal basis. During the hearing, his party also presented documents proving ownership of the land and buildings, which are registered under the name Busli Saraka. Sofian also clarified the dismantling of roofs on several housing units.

According to him, the action was taken because four residents had failed to make payments for one year and nine months. He explained that on August 30, 2024, a sale and purchase agreement had been made stating that if payment arrears occurred for four consecutive months, the management had the right to issue an eviction notice.

“We did not immediately vacate the houses even though the arrears had exceeded the limit. We still provided additional time until January–February 2026 and made repeated approaches. However, the four residents remained uncooperative,” he said.

Sofian also stressed that in the process there were no elements of human rights violations or intimidation. In fact, the management offered payment relief to the residents.

“If residents are able to pay a down payment of Rp20 million, the remaining balance can be paid in installments over the next 20 months,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Regent of Biak Numfor, Markus Oktovianus Mansnembra, who he said had assisted 13 residents by providing a down payment of Rp. 20 million per person.

According to Sofian, the support greatly helped the residents while also maintaining the sustainability of the housing business.

In addition, his party had also submitted a notification to the Biak Numfor Police Resort (Polres Biak Numfor) through a letter dated March 10, 2026, regarding the planned roof dismantling for renovation carried out on March 12, 2026.

Sofian hopes the public can understand the actual situation and not be easily influenced by information circulating on social media.

“We are not a party that troubles the community. In fact, we have become victims in this business process because some residents did not fulfill the agreement,” he said.
